Ray of Light Theatre Jr. (ROLT Jr.) is a children’s summer theatre program entering its ninth successful year. It is a two-week intensive musical theatre workshop for children, drawing on the talent and experience of members of the ROLT community. It is an immersive program where your children receive hands-on experience in the many aspects of producing a show: Not only singing, dancing and acting, but also set design, construction and stage management. Our program emphasizes creativity, collaboration and fun. At the end of the two week session, students present a musical performance that is, in many ways, their very own.

Following best practices, we have been working to initiate forums to better support children of color at SFDS. In October, the school took a step toward this goal by starting a morning gathering for African American students. The response from parents and children alike has been overwhelmingly positive, prompting me to ask other families of color (Asian, Latino, and multi-racial) if they would be interested in having a similar option for their children. Based on their enthusiastic feedback, it is my pleasure to announce that next month we will begin morning gatherings for more students of color.
