Partnering for Success

Partnering for Success

On the Friday of upper-school conferences, the halls were oddly quiet and mostly empty. For two days, important conversations took place between students, advisors, and parents behind the closed doors of classrooms and offices. Preceding these meetings, teachers spent hours assessing each student’s progress, determining their letters grade, analyzing their capacity as effective learners, and composing useful and insightful summary comments. However, their evaluation would not be complete without the parent-teacher conference.

Student Response to Haiti

Student Response to Haiti

For the past two weeks, the student congress has been debating, researching, and planning how to lead the student community’s response to the disaster in Haiti. Dr. Jackson visited the congress and implored members to be student leaders in creating a plan to keep our students informed and to create ways of giving that would be both immediate and ongoing. As we begin a strategic thinking process to answer the question, “What should a 21st Century Education be for SFDS?” this change in the availability of information is a key parameter.

Consider the following: When I first addressed the upper school students about the earthquake in Haiti, I posed the question, “What are the causes of poverty in Haiti?”
