April Panhandle Park Clean-Up

Spring is here and we have our wonderful team of “panhandle park stewards” to thank for helping get our parks ready!  This month’s community work day at the Panhandle was held on Saturday, April 9th.  Roughly thirty-five people (including a large group of SFDS seventh graders and other SFDS students) volunteered their time to spread some love to our community park and playground.

Fortunately, the weather cooperated once again and the workday took place under sunny skies.  The volunteers split into two groups – one group tackled the children’s playground, helping to eradicate weeds that cropped up due to the heavy rains in March.  The other team headed east to a worksite near Baker Street, where they filled wheelbarrows and spread mulch around the young cherry trees there. Redwood and eucalyptus trees also benefited from the loving attention of our volunteers as they also received nutrient rich soil to protect their growth.

Another big thank you goes out to Dale Danley, our fearless Panhandle Park Steward leader and friend, for the pictures and update on these events.

The next community work day will take place Saturday, May 14th.  We hope to see you there!
