Bike to School on April 7!

On Thursday, April 7, families all over the city will be exchanging four wheels for two as they participate in the annual San Francisco Bike to School Day.  This is the third year for this event, and with the support of interested parents, teachers and individual schools, 3000 riders at more than 40 schools are anticipated to participate.

There is also a poster contest held to build enthusiasm for the event, with numerous submissions from students in San Francisco.  We are proud to congratulate our very own SF Day third grade student Colby for her winning entry.  Colby’s creative “eco-family” design won for the grade 3-5 category, and her poster is featured at the SF Bike to School Day website along with the other two winners.

This year, we hope you’ll consider riding to school using one of the mapped safe commute routes or by cheering on the next generation of safe and smart cyclists.  SFDS participants will be meeting at the blacktop at 6th Avenue and JFK in Golden Gate Park on Thursday morning (Upper School gathers at 7:15 and Lower School gathers at 7:25am).  At least one adult is strongly suggested to accompany a lower school student.  Please note that helmets are required and rain will cancel this event.  Upon arrival, secure bicycle parking will be provided and healthy snacks and drinks will be available.  To sign up or for more information, please contact Aaron Brill at abrill@sfds.net.
