A Firsthand Look at ITL

The school is quiet and cold in the summer, but we’re all getting fired up as we sit in the computer lab with the third grade team and talk about ideas for our ITL (Institute on Teaching and Learning) project. Together, Randy Bowman, Karen Dauer, Andrew Brennan and I are taking advantage of ITL, which is an opportunity for teachers to get together in teams to spend focused and dedicated time on school work.

Student Bake Sale Raises $1400

Student Bake Sale Raises $1400

Inspired by the film, Brownstone to Red Dirt, sixth graders put on a bake sale that raised $700 (which was matched by a parent for a total of $1400). This money will be donated to Copper Pot Pictures who will use it to build a school for children in Sierra Leone and a library for children in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

We are so close to reaching our 2009-2010 Annual Fund goals of $1,100,000 and100% parent participation – but we need YOU to get there. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have raised an impressive $983,368 and achieved 88% participation. Only 36 families remain for us to reach 100%!

Kindergartners Create Their Final Masterpiece

As an end of the year project, kindergartners worked on their most elaborate self-portrait of the year – the collage self-portrait. They used the just-right skin color paper they created last week for the foundation of their bodies, then added details of clothing, facial features, and hair. They enjoyed the opportunity to apply the collage skills they have acquired throughout this year with a new subject – themselves!
