Almost there… Help us reach our 2010-11 Annual Fund goals

We are so close to reaching our 2010-11 Annual Fund goals of $1,100,000 and100% parent participation – but we need YOU to get there. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we have raised an astounding $1,089,479 and achieved 94% participation.

It is our pleasure to announce new members who will be joining the San Francisco Day School faculty and administration next year: Vanessa Alexander, Director of Development; Ilona Marshall, Spanish Teacher; Michelle Phillips, Director of Communications
Christopher Wilcox, Latin Teacher; and Kevin Wood, Co-Teacher in 1st Grade. As we welcome these additions to our school, we’d also like to bid farewell to those who will not be returning to SFDS next year.

Summer Reading Lists are Here!

Summer Reading Lists are Here!

I’m excited to share some of my “can’t miss” summer reads! Here a few books to check out this summer, hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. The list is not required reading, just highly encouraged. Students who record their books should bring their reading logs to me in the fall for a ‘Super Summer Reader’ surprise!

Reflections on Admissions Season

Reflections on Admissions Season

Across the city, young people of all ages are feeling the thrill of admissions season. Like admissions committees everywhere, ours did its best to make intelligent decisions about which young people to invest in. We looked for the desire to work hard, a love of learning, and the need for help getting to college.

Annual Fund Update

Annual Fund Update

Have you heard? A little bird mentioned that 68% of SFDS families have participated in the 2010-2011 Annual Fund, raising over $870,000 to date. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to eveyone who has donated to this important fundraising campaign.

Annual People of Color Conference

Annual People of Color Conference

This year I had the fortune of being able to travel to San Diego for the NAIS’ 23rd annual People of Color Conference (PoCC). In all, 2900 teachers, administrators and high school students from around the country attended the conference. The PoCC is the NAIS’ flagship of equity and justice initiatives to address two important needs: the need for people of color in independent schools to come together for support and the need for schools to find ways to build and sustain inclusive independent school communities.

Critical Thinking in Mathematics

Critical Thinking in Mathematics

Suppose there are 4 people in a room. How many handshakes would there be if everyone in the room shook each other’s hand once? How about 100 people in a room?

We are excited to kick off what we know will be another great year for the San Francisco Day School’s 2010-2011 Annual Fund. We hope you will help us reach our goal of $1.1 million and 100% parent participation.
