JV Girls Basketball Advance to Playoffs!

“Stressful.”

“Exciting!”

“The most intense game ever played…”

No – we’re not talking about the 49ers playoff game – but this one was just as tense and even closer to home. Our JV girls basketball team recently advanced to playoffs, after an emotional and physically demanding double overtime nail-biter.

“We were neck and neck the entire game! We took a shot with one minute left on the clock and beat FAIS.”

It’s been a challenging season for girls basketball, but our students persevered, improving game after game. Their secret? “We never give up! Sometimes it looks like we are going to lose, but we manage to bounce back.” The girls asked to thank their amazing coach, Susan Sonnemaker, and to give a “shout-out” to Coach Tognetti for his support as well.

You can cheer on this awesome team at their first playoff game, where they will face MCDS next Wednesday, 2/8 at 3:45pm (at MCDS). Good luck to the following girls: Mayme, Leila, Claire, Emily, Nina, Chloe, Bebe, Tomicia, Jane, and Isabel. GO PHINS!

SFDS Welcomes New Pro Hockey Team, SF Bulls!

Thanks to the passion for hockey and “make-it-happen” attitude of SFDS seventh grader Rex, SFDS had a very special visitor during Friday morning’s upper school assembly. After more than 15 years, pro hockey returns to San Francisco with the newest member of the league, the San Francisco Bulls. SF Bulls manager/head coach/general manager Pat Curcio says, “We are so excited and proud to provide professional hockey to the San Francisco Bay Area. The on ice product will be very entertaining and the Cow Palace is the perfect venue for our team.”

Pat was joined by their new, as yet un-named mascot, and both took the time to greet our school and take several photos with SFDS students. The SF Bulls are holding a naming contest for their mascot; to enter, just visit: sfbulls.com. Will it be Rawhide, or does the mascot look more like a Dozer? Let the people decide! The new name will be revealed on Monday, December 12th.

SFDS 8th Grader Wins BAIAL Cross Country League Championship!

Our very own 8th grader Andrew took first place at this year’s BAIAL Cross Country League Championship. With an impressive time of just 8:11, Andrew outran over a hundred competitors. The SFDS cross country team worked hard all season and we could not be prouder! Congratulations to Andrew and his fellow teammates – go Dolphins!!

The fall season has finished with strong accomplishments in all sports. Chloe T. finished 5th out of 116 runners and Andrew M. finished 6th out of 130 boys runners. The cross country team had solid representation in the Final Championship race held on Monday in Golden Gate Park.

The four girls volleyball teams improved their game throughout the season with the Varsity taking 4th place and the JV taking 2nd place in our

Girls JV team after their win against Burke in the semi-final match.

Bay Area Interscholastic Athletic League.

The boys Varsity soccer team put up a great fight against Town in the semi-final game at Crocker finishing in 4th and the mighty JV boys soccer team put together a competitive season gaining in both strength and skill.

Basketball will start with practices beginning Nov. 15th be sure to download the boys and girls basketball practice schedule. Game schedules will be available soon.
