CAIS Visits SFDS

CAIS Visits SFDS

2011-2012 is an accreditation year for San Francisco Day School, which means that our faculty, staff and administration spent a large part of last year (and this year) preparing an in-depth self study for CAIS review.

SFDS Emergency Communications Update

SFDS Emergency Communications Update

We are enhancing our emergency communications systems and need your help!
Our present emergency communication model uses an out-of-state mass notification service that forwards a recorded voicemail from SFDS to our parents, guardians and out-of-state contacts. Since voice traffic dramatically increases during emergency situations, we are supplementing our model with additional emergency channels.

Homa Hanjani

We have just welcomed an amazing group of new students and families to our community, which makes it hard to believe that it is, once again, time to begin admission season.
Can you remember the time when you first learned about SFDS? For most of us it was not right at the [...]

Annual Report on End of Year Tests and Assessments

Annual Report on End of Year Tests and Assessments

Standardized achievement tests such as ERB tests provide useful information to both the school and families, but it is important to understand the implications of this type of testing. At SFDS, we believe that a comprehensive assessment must include a variety of techniques not limited to standardized testing alone*, but also including an analysis of a student’s portfolio of his/her actual school work, direct observation of teaching and curriculum reviews benchmarked against state and national standards.

SFDS and California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS)

SFDS and California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS)

At SFDS, as in every independent school, teachers and administrators have the freedom to shape the program, practice, and methods of the school, but every 6 years we have the responsibility to explain and justify those choices in order to remain members of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS).

Thank you from the Director of Admissions

Thank you from the Director of Admissions

As the admission season comes to an end, I would like to sincerely thank all of you for helping us share our school with the larger San Francisco community. Interview after interview, I have heard how comforting it is to walk through this school and interact with compassionate and warm parents and staff. Our strong sense of community is deeply felt by all who visit.

Welcome from the Admissions Team

Welcome from the Admissions Team

We all have many opportunities to share our enthusiasm about our children’s education. As these opportunities arise at civic or social events/organizations, neighborhood associations, or your child’s former preschool kindergarten information event, we hope you will be willing to share your SFDS experiences. Feel free to stop by the admission office for information you can take to share with these groups.
