Don’t Miss Guest Speaker, Adam Pertman on Oct. 17

Please join us for a great evening with a very special guest, focusing on family diversity.

Date: Monday, October 17th
Time:
Reception from 6:00 – 7:00pm
Presentation and Q&A with Adam Pertman from 7:00 – 8:15pm
Location: SFDS Library

Adam Pertman – who will speak, take questions and lead a discussion – is a Pulitzer-nominated former journalist who is one of the country’s leading experts on adoption, foster care and family issues. Adam is the Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, a national nonprofit that is the pre-eminent research, policy and education organization in its field. He also has two new books out – Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming Our Families – and America (which has been reviewed as “the most important book ever written on the subject”) and Adoption by Lesbians and Gay Men: A New Dimension in Family Diversity.

Adam has won numerous awards for his work, writes and speaks extensively about family issues, is a highly sought-after speaker who has delivered keynotes and trainings around the world, and is frequently interviewed by journalists throughout our country and in many others, from the New York Times to National Public Radio to Oprah to the Today show (and more). For him, adoption is a prism through which the broad range of modern families are reflected – and can be better understood.

Whether your family includes one parent, divorced parents, same-gender parents, stepparents, parents of children born via sperm or egg donation and surrogacy, adoptive or foster parents, grandparent care-givers or old-fashioned married, same-sex parents – and whether ethnic and racial diversity are part of your everyday reality or not – your views about “family” will be informed and enriched by this evening of stimulating, provocative discussion.

Please take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn more from one of the nation’s thought leaders on families of the 21st Century.  We hope you can join us!  To RSVP, please contact Dawn Hartman at dawnrhartman@hotmail.com.
