Eighth Graders Train to Become Tutors

IMG_0128Nine eighth graders at the Day School are preparing to spend their fall semester tutoring with the Breakthrough program. As part of their training, the nine tutors learned about the history of Breakthrough and its students, the essential components of an ideal school, and the basics of effective tutoring. Each eighth grader will tutor two children from the Breakthrough community, and many are taking on the added responsibility of teaching an elective class. Elective classes include chess, arts and crafts, sports history, and photography. The Breakthrough after-school program gets underway Monday.
