Kindergartners went to the Tunitas Family Farm where they each got to choose a pumpkin to bring back to school and, eventually, home. Before the trip, students participated in an inquiry lesson about farms and pumpkins. Each kindergartner was asked to make a connection between what he or she knows about pumpkins and farms and then to think of a question he or she would like to ask Farmer Richard. Some of the questions were: “Do you have goats? Will they butt us?” “How long does it take to make a pumpkin?” “Do pumpkins need water?” “How did you make your farm—out of wood?” We emailed the questions to Farmer Richard Tuesday afternoon and he sent back detailed answers the next morning!
