On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are pleased to invite you to participate in Strategic Plan 2010. Our objectives are twofold: (1) to envision the intellectual and practical elements of a 21st century education, and (2) to prepare a simple and clear plan that is true to our vision and to our SFDS mission.
The Day School is uniquely poised to tackle this complex and exciting process. We have a stable board focused on long-term governance, an experienced head who is a demonstrated leader, and an academic program highly regarded by those within and beyond our community. As part of the process so far, the Board has re-affirmed the SFDS mission, our K-8 family school status, our current location, and our commitment to coeducation. Strategic Plan 2010 will focus more narrowly, and specifically, on the programmatic and curriculum needs of a 21st century education.
The plan will ultimately incorporate three critical components:
Educational Program
We will evaluate the education our children will require to thrive in a rapidly changing world and an evolving global environment.
Facility Review
We will conduct a space utilization plan to review the use of all our classrooms and the time available for additional use.
Financial Modeling
We will look at all sources of revenue for SFDS – tuition, annual fund, major gifts, endowment, and fundraising events – in an effort to provide a stable financial program for our families. We will also look at the implications of the increasing costs we have faced in the last decade.
We need your voice!
At the February and March Community Listening Forums, current and former parents will join founders and former trustees; faculty and retired faculty; younger and older alumni; grandparents and professional educators to share their own perspectives on the educational issues and priorities that will confront our children in the increasingly complex world they will be required to navigate.
The forums offer a rare opportunity to participate as a visionary in our community. We welcome and encourage you to become actively involved in this exciting process.
Sincerely,
Mike Halper ……………………………………. Lenny Lieberman
