Second Graders Study Cable Cars

Cable-Car-in-backgroundIn science, second graders have been learning about transportation; while in social studies, they have been learning about San Francisco. What better way to combine the two courses of study than by learning about cable cars? San Francisco cable cars are the nation’s only movable monument. The students learned about pulleys and levers and how the cable car system works. This unit was highlighted by a trip to the cable car museum—via cable car, of course. At the museum, the students learned about the importance of the cable car in San Francisco’s history.
