SFDS Rocks!

Art Teacher & Concert for Community Organizer

On Friday, March 25th the San Francisco Day School put on their 9th annual Concert for Community.  The Concert, which showcased music from 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade performers, benefitted local community organizations.  Students formed bands and performed covers of songs from an eclectic collection of music such as Sunshine of your Love by Cream, Song 2 by Blur, and Don’t Stop Believing by Journey, to name just a few.  The evening was an explosive success as students got an opportunity to display their innate creative talent to a supportive and cheering audience and raise money for local organizations at the same time.

The event, now in it’s 9th year, was originally created in the wake of 9/11 and started specifically to benefit local organizations with the idea that we should “think globally, and act locally.”  This year proceeds were divided equally and donated to Thrive House for Youth, The Cannon Kip Center, The Tenderloin School, The Presidio Trust, and Action Against Hunger.  The concert, which promotes both creativity and stewardship, is an opportunity for students to not only display their talents but to learn about community service and to “take care of our world,” which is the Day School Kindergarten motto.
