Students worked in groups to read a few sections of text about different aspects of the mission system. They practiced finding the main idea, identifying supporting details, and forming a summary sentence. The students created posters illustrating these features of their sections. Afterwards, they were put in groups in which each student was an expert on his/her own section. They played a game where they had to rely on each other for their expertise. Many points were earned and fun was had by all. They also learned a lot about the missions, presidios, and pueblos.</p>
